At the core of the projects are volunteers who curate the knowledge that the world has come to rely on. The Community Resources team is the primary funding function of the Wikimedia Foundation ensuring that we support the Affiliates and volunteer contributors of the Wikimedia Movement by offering institutional and individual funding to help achieve the Movement’s goals. To support the movement’s commitment to Knowledge Equity, the team prioritizes proactive outreach to communities that structures of power and privilege have left out.The Senior Program Officer will implement the regional funding programs serving Wikimedian communities in Northern & Western Europe. 

Senior Major Gift Officer

The Senior Major Gift Officer is a critical part of the Wikimedia Foundation’s fundraising team, focused on raising major gifts and planned gifts for the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia Endowment. The Senior Major Gift Officer will report to and work closely with the Senior Manager of Major Gifts & Planned Giving to develop and execute major giving fundraising strategies. They manage a dynamic portfolio of major gift prospects, serving as one of our front-line major gifts fundraisers. Succeeding in this environment requires comfort with both highly personalized cultivation strategies for individual donors in their portfolio as well as email outreach to a broad array of donors at scale. 

Senior Data Scientist

The Community Growth team at the Wikimedia Foundation works to improve knowledge equity by supporting our global communities of volunteers through grantmaking, capacity development, and strategic partnership building. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist, reporting to the Manager of Data, Learning & Evaluation (Community Growth), who will support the strategic work of Community Growth with impactful, accessible, and ethical data and insights. You’ll guide the development and execution of the Wikidata Query Service (WDQS) and related platform services that enable tools, features, research, and community workflows across the Wikimedia ecosystem and beyond.

Staff Software Engineer

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Staff Software Engineer to join the Tools Platform team and provide senior technical leadership for Toolforge—the platform that powers over 3,300 community-built tools responsible for roughly 30% of all edits across Wikipedia and its sister projects. This is a critical individual contributor role at the intersection of platform software, developer experience, and production infrastructure. You will lead the design and implementation of the software systems and workflows that tool developers depend on to build, deploy, operate, and sustain tools at scale.

MediaWiki is the open-source platform that powers Wikipedia and its sister projects – impacting hundreds of millions of Wikipedia users across the globe. Senior Software Engineer

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team, reporting to the Sr. Engineering Manager. As the Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and executing on the long-term engineering strategy in collaboration with the product team. You will contribute heavily to the high impact challenges behind innovating, building, and maintaining Wikipedia’s data feeds for high volume reusers. In this role, you will foster cross team collaboration where necessary to address business goals, keep the team moving quickly by designing and implementing necessary tools and services, and guide the team on best practices for software engineering and infrastructure reliability.

Staff Database Administrator

We’re hiring a Staff Database Administrator to support and protect the sum of all human knowledge, shared by Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. Much of that knowledge is stored using MariaDB, and therefore we’re looking for someone with a strong expertise in designing, operating and optimizing relational (SQL) database infrastructure at large scale (MariaDB and other MySQL derivatives in particular), to support and scale the technology behind Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects—some of the most visited websites on the internet.

Compensation Philosophy

Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture.  

In compliance with local legislation within the US, we post the anticipated annual pay range for each position for applicants with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay.  

For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. 

We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
